Idaho's Property Tax Reduction program now open

Boise, ID (CBS2) — The Idaho Property Tax Reduction program can provide some tax relief for eligible homeowners.

The program can reduce property tax by up to $1,500 on a homeowner's primary Idaho residence and up to one acre of land. To be eligible you must:

• Be an Idaho resident
• Own and occupy your home or mobile home(the value cannot exceed the limit set by law in June 2023)
• Your total 2022 income after medical expenses have been deducted is $33,870 or less

Also if by January 1, 2023, any of the following apply to you:

• You're 65 or older
• A former POW or hostage
• A child under 18 that is motherless or fatherless
• Blind
• A widow(er)
• Disabled

This year you can now apply online for this program ( you will need an email address) or you can get a paper application on the Tax Commission's website or from your county assessor. All applications (both mail-in and online) must be turned in to your county assessor by Tuesday, April 18, 2023. You will have to reapply for the Tax Reduction Program every year.

“The new online application gives taxpayers more flexibility, especially if it’s difficult to get to their county assessor’s office,” said Pam Waters, administrator of Idaho’s Property Tax Reduction program. “In addition, they can apply online for our other property tax relief options including property tax deferral and the disabled veterans benefit."
